America’s churches may soon be facing a shortage of organists

A survey by the American Guild of Organists indicates that the majority of their members are in their mid-50’s to mid-70’s and new generations of organists simply are not materializing.

The problem may be linked to an gradual decline in church attendance and a sharper reduction in the number of congregations who use the organ for regular worship.

Ironically, organists report a surge in jobs at Christmas and Easter — often more than they can fulfill.
