Biden praises House voting rights bill, but Senate future is dim

President Biden is praising House passage of a voting reform bill that will likely be blocked in the Senate. After House Democrats narrowly passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, the president said it would protect a “sacred right” and called on the Senate to send the bill to his desk. However, its chances of Senate passage are slim because the measure does not have enough votes to overcome opposition from Republicans, who have excoriated it as “unnecessary” and a “power grab.”
