DC protesters cleared for fencing, not Trump photo op

An internal investigation has determined that U-S Park Police did not remove protesters in Washington, DC, last summer for President Trump’s photo op. According to the Interior Department’s inspector general, federal police officers forcefully cleared protesters from Lafayette Park last June so a contractor could install new fencing. The report says police were not influenced by then-President Trump’s plan to visit the area. Demonstrators were protesting the death of George Floyd when they were forced to leave the area with pepper pellets and flash bangs. A short time later, Trump walked across the park to St. John’s Church, where he stood holding a Bible.
