George W. Bush calls for Afghans’ “safe passage” without delay

Former President George W. Bush is urging the U-S government to act quickly to help at-risk Afghans. Bush says the government has “the legal authority to cut the red tape for refugees” and he calls on the U-S to secure their safe passage “without bureaucratic delay.” In a joint statement with former first lady Laura Bush, the former president expressed a “deep sadness” over the events in Afghanistan. Bush, who launched the “war on terror” in Afghanistan after the September 11th attacks in 2001, also commended U-S troops, veterans, and diplomats for their years of courageous service.
