GOP senators oppose marriage penalties in Biden’s tax plan

Nearly three dozen Republican senators are opposed to marriage tax penalties in the Democrats’ massive government overhaul. Utah’s Mitt Romney and 32 of his GOP Senate colleagues have signed a letter arguing against “harmful” penalties for married couples in the 3-point-5 trillion dollar reconciliation bill pushed by Democrats and the White House. The Republican senators say the bill makes existing tax penalties worse. They tell the Senate Majority Leader that “discouraging marriage is not in our country‚Äôs best interest and sends the wrong message to our families.” GC, Wash.
