The coronavirus pandemic has hammered small businesses from coast to coast. An alarming trend for an economy struggling to recover from the deepest, fastest recession in U.S. history

VERBATIM: Small employers are normally a vital source of hiring after a recession. They account for nearly half the economy’s output and an outsize portion of new jobs. But roughly one-in-five small businesses have closed, according to the data firm Womply. And the pandemic apparently isn’t over yet.
Even though hiring has partly rebounded, the U-S is still down 10.7 million jobs since February. Rich Thomason reporting.
