White House withdraws Biden’s nominee for ATF

The White House is withdrawing its nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. David Chipman is a former federal agent, but his gun-control advocacy drew opposition on Capitol Hill. Unable to secure the necessary votes for Senate confirmation, the White House is withdrawing the nomination. In a written statement, President Biden blamed Republicans for blocking Chipman, but there was bipartisan opposition and, ultimately, not enough votes in the 50-50 divided Senate.
