Gas approaches $4 a gallon national average, says AAA

Gas prices continue to creep higher. According to Triple-A, the national average for gasoline is just under 4 bucks — at 3-98 a gallon. Drivers in the western U-S are paying even more. The average gallon of regular gas is 5 dollars and 30 cents in Washington and 5-83 in California.

Meanwhile, U-S forces have pressed ahead with efforts to reopen the vital waterway for global energy.

GOP Promises Thorough Oversight Hearings On Trump Executive Moves

Senate Republicans say upcoming hearings will provide thorough oversight of President Trump’s use of executive power. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) says he;s observed a lot of presidents and says they all try to exert as much executive power as they can. Then he says as a matter of course those decisions often have to face scutiny from the courts and Congress, Thune told CNN Republican senators “have a responsibility as an independent, coequal branch of the government to make sure that we’re doing appropriate oversight of these decisions.”

U.S. and Iran Reach a 60-day Agreement

U.S. and Iranian negotiators have reached a tentative agreement to extend the ceasefire by 60 days and launch talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

That’s according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter, who said President Donald Trump still needs to sign off on the emerging memorandum of understanding. Iran did not immediately confirm any deal with the United States.

The tentative agreement worked out by the two sides comes at a moment when the fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran appeared to be wavering.

VERBATIM: According to the latest poll from the Pew Research Center, abortion is the topic that most often comes up in a sermon these days — 35% of regular churchgoers say they have heard a message about it in the last few months. Israel is the second most common political or social issue to be addressed from the pulpit — 34% have heard about that. Next comes homosexuality, immigration and the war in Iran. MH REPORTING
