California argues for free birth control

Lawyers for California and the Department of Justice clashed in court Tuesday over women’s access to free birth control. The state is asking a federal judge to block a Trump administration policy change to Obamacare which expands the categories of employers who can opt out of providing free contraception by claiming religious or moral objections. Washington state, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania are also suing over the rules.  The Department of Health and Human Services issued the new policy in October. It marked another step in the Trump administration’s rollback of Obamacare.
