Lawsuit: Louisiana school district promotes religion

A federal lawsuit claims that promotion of religion is engrained in one Louisiana school district. Christy Cole wants a court declaration that the Webster Parish School District’s practices are unconstitutional, along with an order blocking them. Cole says her family “has been made to feel like outsiders and second-class citizens within the school community because they object to the schools’ religious activities.”

The American Civil Liberties Union filed the suit. It cites Christian prayers at athletic events, pep rallies and assemblies as examples of the district’s violations. The ACLU also has a problem with graduation ceremonies held at churches.
