The Latest: Man who aided patient says she’s getting care

BALTIMORE (AP) — The man who came to the aid of a disoriented woman discharged from a Baltimore hospital on a frigid night wearing only a gown and socks says she’s been reunited with family.

Imamu Baraka is a psychotherapist who has an office across from the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus. He’s been in regular contact with the 22-year-old woman’s mother.

In his words, the young woman is now “doing a lot better.”

Baraka’s phone video shows guards strolling back to the hospital after escorting the patient out wearing only a gown and socks. She appeared visibly disoriented and was unable to formulate words.

Dr. Mohan Suntha is the hospital’s top executive. He describes it as an “isolated incident” and said the hospital failed to provide “basic humanity and compassion.”

Suntha says an extensive internal review is being conducted.
